Nanny Resume: Making the Best First Impression

The resume of a nanny should outline her qualifications in childcare but also portray some sense of responsibility, trustworthiness, and in-depth knowledge about child psychology and the development process. Here's the step-by-step guide toward forming an effective nanny resume in which you can show how strong you are and meet the expectations of those ideal families or agencies seeking competent nanny services.

How to Write a Nanny Resume

1. Begin with a Professional Summary:

The first section of your resume should be a summary. It can summarize one or two sentences summarizing experience and key strengths in few words. Your background and what you bring to the role will come through in this overview.

Example:

"Experienced, caring, and nurturing nanny with a history of care given for one to twelve-year-old children for more than 5 years. Skilled in activities such as the ability to create educational and fun activities or manage routines for healthy development. Known for having strength in work ethic, reliance, and actual love from fostering a safe environment that excites kids."

2. Provide Relevant Skills

Use bullet points so this can be scanned easily. Highlight the qualities most valued by parents:

  • Know-how with children (baby care, sleep training, etc.)
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Meal planning and nutrition
  • Activity planning and keeping things organized
  • Patience and adaptability
  • Communication and trust-building

3. Describe Your Experience

For previous nanny experience or similar, list the families that you have worked with, if available; indicate the number of children and ages of the children; and also indicate the amount of time since working with them. Then, indicate work, what was expected, and what was accomplished in your tenure with that family.

Example:

Nanny for the Smith Family | June 2020-Present

New York, NY

  • Cared for two children, ages 4 and 7, ensuring a nurturing, educational, and structured environment.
  • I have developed a daily schedule for educational games, outdoor activities, and reading time to encourage learning and healthy routines.
  • Prepared nutritious meals and meal planning based on dietary needs and preferences.
  • Discussed and coordinated with parents on the issue of discipline, educational goals, and daily updates.

4. Relevant Certifications

List your certifications such as First Aid, CPR, or your childcare training here. Showing you know what to do in emergencies and can assure children about safety gives confidence.

For instance:

 CPR and First Aid Certified- American Red Cross;  exp. date: May 2025

5. Include Education and Background

Include education, especially if it has anything to do with childcare or education: listing a degree in early childhood education or child psychology certainly will help you advance; otherwise, just listing high school and date of graduation is enough.

6. References

Attach previous employers' references from families that you have worked with if possible, or state that available if requested. Parents rely greatly on recommendations when hiring a nanny, so having this readily available can speed up the process for both parties.

7. Customize Your Resume to the Job Posting

Adjust the resume so it speaks more specifically to the family or agency's needs. If they've been telling you something like there's a big thing on educational activities or this person is okay with pets, then show those areas.
