With multiple AI tools in their arsenal, Merlin would probably seem to be the ultimate focal point for all things AI. But for the sake of convenience, let's take a look at their AI detection tool and take a bird's eye view of its accuracy.

The tool boasts of identifying content generated by models like ChatGPT, GPT-4o, GPT-4, and Google Gemini. The editor can take an input of up to 10,000 characters, which is more than enough for a comprehensive blog. Moreover, it can also read PDF files as long as the content is within the set character limit. Moreover, the tool is free, and the page is also a mini guide filled with precise facts on AI detectors and how to use their tool.

We conducted a small experiment to determine the tool's accuracy. The following sets of content were generated using the three models of ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The same prompt: "Create a Blog on AI detection tools" and the content was placed in Merlin AI detector's editor and the following sets of results were recorded.

1. ChatGPT 4 was flagged as 73 percent AI generated although the entire piece of content was created by AI.ChatGPT 4 sample content.png

2. Merlin's AI detctor flagged content created by ChatGPT 4o mini as 79 percent although the same model created the whole text.

3. As for ChatGPT 4o, the results showed that the text is 80% AI generated although the whole piece of text was made by the model.

4. Merlin is fairly accurate in determining content created by Google Gemini where it shows 83 % is AI generated even though AI generated the entire piece.

It is more proficient in detecting human content more accurately as a purely human-created image was determined to have no AI content.

A simple mix and match of the AI content and the human content does not completely throw away the detector, for it easily manages to capture the pieces of text that are AI-generated.

To summarise, the tool is fairly accurate, but considering that it is a free tool, it is definitely one of the best ones to consider.

However, if you are looking for another tool with more perks like a higher content input limit (of up to 25,000 words), no sign-up, multi-lingual support, and greater accuracy, check out HireQuotient's AI detector and tell us which one you liked best!
