Steps to Follow While Creating a Bartender Resume

Impactful Summary

Starting from the short objective, you should speak about the experience and skills. This part of the resume is the hook that sets the tone, and helps the hiring manager get an instant shot of who you are.

Example:

"Experienced bartender over 4 years of hands-on experience in fast-paced nightlife environments; skilled in mixology, customer service, and POS systems. Passionate about delivering exceptional service and crafting innovative cocktails."

Discuss Important Skills

Bartending demands specific technical, social, and organizational skills. In this section, emphasize on your hard and  soft skills.

Hard Skills:

  • Mixology & Craft Cocktails
  • POS System Proficiency
  • Inventory Management
  • Knowledge of Local & International Spirits
  • Speed and Efficiency in High-Volume Settings

Soft Skills:

  • Communication
  • Multitasking & Time Management
  • Customer Service Expertise
  • Problem-Solving Abilities
  • Attention to Detail

This balance of skills will tell an interviewer or employer that you are able to both manage the behind-the-scenes tasks that come with bartending and shine in creating a warm space for a customer.

Highlight Your Work History

Experience on the job is one of your best ways of telling an interviewer or employer that you can handle the demands of bartending. Put down the jobs you have had in reverse chronological order, emphasizing achievements and specific responsibilities. Make sure to quantify accomplishments as much as possible.

Example:

Bartender | The Blue Note Lounge | June 2020-Present

  • Designed and launched more than 50 seasonal menu signature cocktails.
  • Taught and rostered 5 bartenders to work shifts in 800-cover operations.
  • Administered stock; waste reduced by 10% as it was closely monitored.
  • Excellent customer service, had continuous positive reviews.

Showcase Your Certifications and Training

You can add certifications to your resume especially during the process of improved establishments. You should add most of the bartending or alcohol service certifications.

TIPS Certification (Training for Intervention Procedures)

  • ServSafe Alcohol Certification
  • Bartending School Certification
  • Mixology Courses

Note down Your Educational Qualification

Education is not always a priority when it comes to bartending, but in the meantime, putting the high school diploma on paper or whatever hospitality relative courses you may have, helps- especially if new to the industry.

Example: High School Diploma | Eastbrook High School | Graduation Date: 2017

Tailor Your Resume for Every Job

A resume should reflect the personality of the bar it's targeting. Tailor it according to the specific job for which you are applying. So, while a craft cocktail bar wants to focus on mixology, a night club will probably want to highlight speed, multitasking, and fast-paced environments.

Refine with Professional Formatting

A clean and easy-to-read resume says a lot and goes a long way in making that good first impression. A clear font, clear headings, and consistent formatting also give a good impression. Make sure your resume is concise; for most bartend positions, it should be no more than one page.

Note:

  • Keep it concise: You want to keep your resume free of unnecessary details clutter. Stick to what would be most relevant to the job that you're applying to.
  • Use action words: Use active action verbs like "managed," "created," "supervised," and "implemented" to make your experience sound dynamic and impactful.
  • Proofread: Typos and grammatical errors make one look careless. Always double-check your resume, or ask someone to review it for you.

A well-crafted resume will get you shaking more than just cocktails, but job offers in no time!
